CentraleSupélec joins the Ferments du Futur consortium

Ferments du Futur is pleased to welcome CentraleSupélec to its consortium. This new membership follows constructive discussions and a shared commitment to strengthening collaborative research in the fields of fermentation and biotechnology.

Thanks to its cutting-edge expertise in bioprocesses, bio-based materials, analytical chemistry, artificial intelligence applied to bioproduction, and complex systems engineering, CentraleSupélec brings scientific and technological know-how that will enrich the research areas already developed within Ferments du Futur.

Concrete projects already underway

This collaboration has already taken shape through two flagship projects:

  • BIOCOBALT, coordinated by Rafik Balti, explores the valorization of agri-industrial by-products through solid-state fermentation. The goal is to produce a pigment with antioxidant properties, supported by mathematical models capable of describing and predicting microbial growth.

  • GREENFERM, led by Filipa Lopes, focuses on interactions between microorganisms. The project studies the mechanisms of stimulation or inhibition exerted by photosynthetic microorganisms (such as microalgae and cyanobacteria) on bacteria and yeasts derived from kombucha, kefirs, or fermented vegetables.

A strengthened scientific dynamic

The arrival of CentraleSupélec paves the way for numerous synergies within the consortium. The Process and Materials Engineering Laboratory (LGPM – CentraleSupélec) will play a central role in these collaborations, contributing to the implementation of interdisciplinary projects dedicated to biotechnology and sustainable fermentation.

Acknowledgments

Ferments du Futur wishes to express its gratitude to Patrick Perré (Director of the Biotechnology Chair), Pedro Augusto (Deputy Director of the Biotechnology Chair), as well as to the Research Directorate of CentraleSupélec and all the scientific and administrative teams who made this partnership possible.
We warmly welcome them and look forward to the progress this collaboration will bring to public research and French innovation.
