A busy December full of inspiring exchanges for Ferments du Futur
The month of December was marked by a strong presence of Ferments du Futur on the national and European agri‑food innovation scene. From international trade shows to thematic meetings, our teams took part in several key events focused on biotechnology, fermentation, and food system transitions.
These gatherings provided valuable opportunities to showcase our projects, strengthen existing collaborations, and explore new synergies with public, industrial, and scientific stakeholders committed to building a more sustainable and innovative food future.
The New Food Paradigm at Station F
On December 1st, Ferments du Futur took part in The New Food Paradigm, held at Station F and dedicated to innovation in ingredients and bioprocesses.
The day featured start‑up pitches, tastings, and networking sessions, fostering exchanges among FoodTech players, investors, industry representatives, and clusters.
Ferments du Futur actively contributed to discussions on the role of fermentation in food system transitions, particularly as a lever for developing sustainable alternatives to cocoa and other agricultural products under pressure.
We warmly thank ShakeUp Factory for organizing this inspiring event, as well as our partners — Carnot Qualiment and INRAE Innovation — for their collaboration in advancing a more sustainable food system.
Ferments du Futur au Food Ingredients Europe 2025
From December 2 to 4, Ferments du Futur took part in Food Ingredients Europe (FiE), held at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles.
This major event brings together key players in agri‑food innovation, nutrition, and food processing each year. It serves as a showcase for the latest trends and sustainable solutions shaping the food of tomorrow.
Our participation provided an excellent opportunity to engage with companies of all sizes on the innovative potential of ferments and fermentation in developing new ingredients and processes.
We also took part in the Pet Food Networking Programme – “Fetch the Future: Pet Food Edition”, a highlight event focused on the future of pet nutrition. These discussions shed light on the promising perspectives that research and fermentative innovation can bring to this rapidly evolving sector.
First participation in the IBISBA Partners Meeting in Brussels
Ferments du Futur was pleased to take part for the first time in the IBISBA Partners Meeting, held at the Maison Irène and Frédéric Joliot‑Curie in Brussels.
More than fifty participants from across Europe gathered to reflect on the future ambitions of the European industrial biotechnology infrastructure.
This meeting provided an opportunity for fruitful discussions around several strategic areas:
-
Ongoing progress toward IBISBA’s EU infrastructure status.
-
The implementation of data interoperability solutions to enhance collaboration.
-
The creation of a shared service catalogue to connect research more effectively with industry.
- Reflections on biosafety, fairness, and societal impact in industrial biotechnology.
This first participation marks an important milestone for Ferments du Futur since joining IBISBA France, opening new perspectives for collaboration and engagement within the European network.
Ferments du Futur at the Symposium Microbiomes Solutions
Ferments du Futur took part in the Microbiomes Solutions Symposium, an event dedicated to microbiomes, fermentation, and the scientific and technological innovations shaping the living world.
Our CEO, Damien Paineau, participated in two panel discussions:
-
Fermentation Process Optimization: the Importance of Data Processing and AI
-
Emergence of a dedicated European Cluster for fermented foods through COST PIMENTO – feedback from a diversity of stakeholders.
Two scientific posters were also presented:
-
Poster 25 : Ferments du Futur: A public-private partnership to accelerate research and innovation on ferments & fermented foods.
-
Poster 38 : Ferments du Futur: Annual call for projects 2023–24 – 12 research projects, €3M total.
The symposium provided an excellent opportunity to showcase our projects, technological platforms, and collaborative initiatives in the fields of fermentation and microbiomes, while strengthening connections with the European scientific and industrial community.
